Fix FPS Drop in CSGO

How to get more FPS in CSGO

To boost your FPS for maximum performance you should first of all add these launch options in steam:

-console -tickrate 128 -fps_max 128 -novid -high

Windows tweaks

  1. ALWAYS turn off any antivirus software because it often scans the processes in realtime and causes fps drops and lags
  2. Set process priority in windows task manager to “high”
  3. Check your graphics driver for updates!
  4. Close any software running like browser, media player, etc…

Video Settings

Of course your video settings are essential for your ingame performance. If you play on very high settings you won’t have much fps. So you should set all your settings as low as possible to get maximum frames per second. If you’re not confident with using the console commands just go to your main settings and set everything you (especially the resolution) see on low and disable all vsync, antialaising and motion blur.
setting.aspectratiomode “1”
setting.cpu_level “0”
setting.csm_quality_level “0”
setting.fullscreen “1”
setting.gpu_level “0”
setting.gpu_mem_level “0”
setting.mat_aaquality “0”
setting.mat_antialias “0”
setting.mat_forceaniso “0”
setting.mat_motion_blur_enabled “0”
setting.mat_queue_mode “2”
setting.mat_software_aa_strength “0”
setting.mat_triplebuffered “0”
setting.mat_vsync “0”
setting.mem_level “2”
setting.nowindowborder “0”
It might(!) be useful to play with a 4:3 resolution like the good old Counter Strike 1.6 to get more FPS. You can play stretched or with black bars. We’re trying to outline the advantages of playing 4:3 stretched in another CSGO Base guide!

To change the viewmodels to look more like Counter Strike Source just put these commands into your console. It reduces the size of the viewmodels so they’re not blocking your view:
viewmodel_fov “65”
Viewmodel_offset_ x “2”
viewmodel_offset_y “2”
viewmodel_offset_z “-2″
cl_bobcycle “2″
cl_bob_lower_amt “0″
cl_bobamt_lat “0″
cl_bobamt_vert “0″
cl_viewmodel_shift_left_amt “0″
cl_viewmodel_shift_right_amt “0″
viewmodel_fov “65”
viewmodel_offset_x “2”
viewmodel_offset_y “2”
viewmodel_offset_z “-2″

Additional Tipps

  • Don’t use WLAN!
    • The wireless connection is often very instable and causes ping and fps drops
  • Clean up your computer!
    • Use tools like CCleaner to delete unimportant stuff which slows down your computer
  • Vacuum your hardware!
    • Dust causes heat and heat slows down your hardware because many computers throttle speed to cool down your hardware and prevent overheating
